In Ashulia, Savar, the authorities have announced the indefinite closure of two garment factories.

On Wednesday morning (April 1), the factory owners put up notices in front of the two factories declaring them closed for an indefinite period. As a result, workers were unable to enter the factories.

Workers said that recently, in the face of protests, the owners announced the indefinite closure of Fashion Forum Limited in the Jamgora area of Ashulia and JA Apparels in the Kuturia area. On April 1st, the owners posted notices of indefinite closure on the main gates of both factories. When workers came to enter the factories in the morning and saw the closure notices and attempted to protest, police removed them from in front of the factories. The workers later returned home. As the two factories were declared closed without paying wages and benefits, more than 4,000 workers have fallen into hardship. At noon of the same day, the workers held a human chain program demanding the reopening of the factories.

To avoid any untoward incidents, additional police have been deployed in front of both factories.

According to Open Supply Hub Fashion Forum Ltd. is a supplier to a member company of the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles.
