On 11/11/2024, hundreds of textile workers of Abanti Colour Tex company in Fatullah area of Narayanganj protested and blocked the Dhaka-Pagla-Munshiganj road to demand unpaid wages.

According to the protesting workers, Abanti Color Tex (which is part of the Crony Group) were shut down without notice, leaving the workers without wages. They allege that despite repeated demands for their wages, the owners have repeatedly refused to pay out the wages and that the Narayanganj administration has failed to find a solution.

During the protests, several factories were vandalized – with the consequence that factory authorities decided to shut down the more than 400 garment factories in the surrounding area at 1pm. The army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police forces were deployed at the site to control the workers' protest.

According to Bangladesh News 24 this protest had a long history. Since last year, according to one of the workers interviewed by Bangladesh News 24, wages had repeatedly not been paid and then, last month, there were sudden layoffs without wages being paid.

Abanti Colour Tex Ltd. is listed in the Open Supply Hub (OSH). According to OSH the factory supplies to member(s) of the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles and Fair Wear Foundation member(s). The company also holds various sustainability certificates (see below).
