Based on reporting in Bangladeshi media and by the Clean Clothes Campaign, on 26 October 2025 at least six workers sustained severe burn injuries following an explosion in a room reportedly housing the gas meter of two adjoining garment factories — M.S. Dyeing, Printing and Finishing Limited, and Fair Apparels Limited — located in Fatullah.

On 14 October, a five‑story building housing two printing factories and at least one active garment factory in the Mirpur area of Dhaka burned down after a neighbouring chemical warehouse caught fire. Workers were trapped inside with no means of escape. The death toll currently stands at 17.

The factories in Mirpur are linked to international brands’ supply chains, and the Fatullah factories also have connections to international brands. Trade data link M.S. Dyeing, Printing and Finishing Ltd. to New Yorker (Germany), Gor Factory (Spain), Storm Textil (Denmark), Camac Arti and Sei Due Sei (Italy), and Solo Invest (France).

Fair Apparels Ltd. (also located in the BSCIC Industrial Estate, Narayanganj Fatullah) counts among its buyers Willy Maisel (Germany), Brandbq (Poland), Unibrands (Sweden), Socim (Italy), Piazza Italia (Italy), Rip Curl (USA/Australia), Lager 157 (Sweden), Terstal Textiel (Netherlands), Toads (France), and Sabor Srl (Italy).

According to reporting by the Clean Clothes Campaign, one of the factories involved in the Fatullah explosion—M.S. Dyeing, Printing and Finishing—had even been publicly listed by the Accord as unsafe. It was covered by the Accord programme until 2018 and later entered the final stage of the programme’s escalation process for repeatedly failing to address life‑threatening safety risks. Once a factory reaches this stage, all signatory companies must terminate their business relationships with it, the factory is placed on a publicly available list of unsafe factories, and workers are informed.

Clearly, the brands sourcing from this factory not only chose not to sign the worker‑safety Accord programme, they also placed orders without conducting even minimal due diligence. For Accord signatory brands, sourcing from factories on the ineligible factories list is strictly prohibited.
