At Ripon Knitwear Limited, a garment factory in the Konabari neighborhood of the Gazipur metropolitan area, workers have stopped working. They are demanding the payment of outstanding night shift allowances as well as their annual holiday pay. The protest began around midday on Wednesday 25th of February 2026.

The employees report that their demands have been ignored for a long time. Since neither the night shift allowances nor the holiday pay of the past months have been paid, they layed down their work, staying inside the factory building and chanting slogans. The management admits that two months of night shift allowances are outstanding and promises payment by the 3rd of the coming month. However, the workers did ;not accept this assurance and continued their strike.

Police have been deployed for security. According to authorities, the protest is peaceful, and traffic on the surrounding roads remains unaffected. Discussions between workers, factory management, and the administration were ongoing on the following day ;in an effort to find a solution.

Ripon Knitwear is a subsidiary of the Ripon Group and is part of the most recent supplier list of member companies of the German Partnership for Sustainable Textiles.
